Applications available for local Rotary Club grants

Non-profit organizations are eligible

untitledThe Rotary Club of Jefferson has opened its 2014 grant cycle. The application process is open to non-profit organizations whose programs or projects benefit others in the areas of education and literacy, community improvement, youth activities, economic development, community assistance and health.  Organizations are not required to have a 501(c)(3) IRS designation.

For the past 15 years, the Rotary Club of Jefferson has directed proceeds from its annual charity auction to worthy non-profit organizations and projects throughout Greene County.  More than $300,000 has been aimed at helping schools, libraries, community organizations and other entities make improvements and services that benefit the quality of life in Greene County.

Last year $30,000 was awarded to 16 different organizations and projects such as Adopt-A-Family, Greene County Early Learning Center, Greene County Historical Museum, the Helping Hands program of Habitat for Humanity, funds for pool shade and lane markers for the Jefferson municipal swimming pool, Scranton Community Center, Sierra Community Theatre, a pavilion for the Thomas Jefferson Gardens, and the Webb House, as well as funding $2,000 in scholarships for Greene County high school graduates.

“These grants would not have been possible without the generous support of many donors and supporters in the county and elsewhere that contribute year after year to the success of the annual auction.  The auction not only raises needed funds for worthy projects but is also an opportunity for an evening of unique fellowship and entertainment,” a Rotary spokesperson said.

Applications and policies and guidelines are available at the Greene County Chamber and Development office, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, Greene County office, Jefferson Public Library, Churdan Public Library, Paton Public Library, Home State Bank and Peoples Trust & Savings Bank locations throughout the county.

Applications must be mailed to the post office box shown on the application.  Deadline for applying is March 15.  Grants will be awarded in May.  Questions may be directed to Lisa Jaskey, treasurer – Rotary Club Foundation, at 515-386-4223.
